Sunnyvale School District marks 125th anniversary

School district anniversary

Sunnyvale Mayor Larry Klein and other local political representatives on Feb. 1 helped celebrate the Sunnyvale School District’s 125th anniversary with a commendation, proclamation, citation and certificate. District representatives along with staff from the offices of Santa Clara County Supervisor Otto Lee,  Congressman Ro Khanna and state Assemblymember Evan Low all turned out for the occasion.

The Encina School District was established on Feb. 4, 1899. The district’s name changed to the Sunnyvale School District in 1904. The Sunnyvale School District has grown from 20 students in a single one-room house to nearly 6,000 students across 10 campuses.

The district is collecting stories and photos to add to its historical timeline. Contact Alia Wilson at [email protected] to share memories and photos.
