SANTA CLARA — Police took one person into custody Tuesday following a fatal shooting, authorities said.

Few details were available, and investigators still were probing after police were called to a residence in the 3700 block of Poinciana Drive about 2:25 a.m., Santa Clara police Lt. Mike Crescini said in a police statement.

Once there, police discovered a shooting victim in the residence who was dead and detained a male near the scene, Crescini said. Police did not immediately release the ages or identity of either person.

Police did not say immediately whether they had arrested the person. He remained in police custody at 6:30 a.m., Crescini said.

No other details were available immediately.
