ArtNow entrants
Four Saratoga High School students had artwork selected for ArtNow, the annual juried exhibit at New Museum Los Gatos for Santa Clara County high school students.
Works by Saratoga High sophomore Nicole Hao and juniors Melanie Lee, Amy Pan and Isabelle Wang were chosen from over 800 submissions from high school students across Santa Clara County. The exhibit will be on display March 22-June 30.
Students were asked to create works around the theme “In Transition,” highlighting the journey from childhood into adulthood that teenagers take. Students can win scholarship money and awards in the categories of painting, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, photography, digital art and video or animation.
District seeks trustee
The West Valley Mission Community College District is looking for a new trustee to represent parts of Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno.
The move comes after Jack Lucas, trustee for the district’s Area 5, passed away in late January. Lucas was recently re-elected to serve as trustee from 2022 until 2026. His fellow trustees voted on Feb. 13 to fill the position with a temporary appointment instead of holding a special election to elect his replacement, according to a press release.
Lucas served on the board for 20 years in addition to serving on the faculty at both Los Gatos and Saratoga high schools. He also previously served as a Monte Sereno city councilmember and mayor.
The district has opened up applications for the new trustee, who will hold the position until the election this November. Anyone who lives within the boundaries of Area 5, is above the age of 18, is a registered voter and is not barred from holding public office is eligible to apply.
Candidates must submit their applications by March 7, and trustees will review applications and interview candidates at a special meeting on March 9, with the goal of appointing a candidate on March 19. For application information, visit https://www.wvm.edu/trustees/Pages/trustee5.aspx.
