EnActe stages ‘Queen,’ ‘Kite’
Fresh off a collaborative production of Madhuri Shekar’s “Queen” with TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale’s EnActe Arts is collaborating with San Jose State University to stage a musical by Mathew Spangler, another San Jose playwright. “The Kite Runner,” based on Khaled Hossaini’s 2003 novel with music by composer Salar Nadar, is set to run April 3-7 at the Hammer Theatre Center in downtown San Jose.
“The San Jose Repertory Theatre did the first regional theater production in 2009, two years after San Jose State University produced it in 2007,” Spangler said in a press release. “So now, after runs on Broadway, in London’s West End, the Dubai Opera House and at so many theaters around the world, it’s amazing for me and those in ‘The Kite Runner’ extended family, who have nurtured this play over the years, to see the Broadway tour, finally, two decades later, returning home.”
“Queen,” meanwhile, is running through March 31 at Palo Alto’s Lucie Stern Theatre.
“EnActe has now collaborated with three major regional theaters of America in the last 12 months: the 75-year-old Children’s Theatre of Charlotte for ‘The Night Diary,’ the 50-year-old Perseverance Theatre in Alaska for Madhuri Shekar’s ‘A Nice Indian Boy’ and now Silicon Valley’s 50-plus-year-old Tony Award-winning TheatreWorks,” said EnActe Artistic Director Vinita Sud Belani.
Tickets to “Queen” are $27-$82 at theatreworks.org. For “Kite Runner” tickets, visit https://hammertheatre.vbotickets.com.
