The incident happened on March 5, when police say they received a call from a man who had been detailing a customer’s car on the 100 block of Laurel Street, near Interstate 80.

According to the man, he was detailing the Toyota Sienna with the keys in the ignition when an unknown woman entered the car, turned it on and attempted to drive away.

Police say the man tried to prevent the woman from leaving, and he was dragged approximately 20 feet. The carjacker then fled the scene. The man was not injured during the incident.

According to police, officers soon located the Toyota Sienna near Sonoma Boulevard and Lemon Street. After a short chase, the woman in the car surrendered.

The car’s owner was later able to recover the vehicle, and both the owner and the detailer chose to press charges. The carjacking suspect was arrested and has been booked into county jail.
