‘Ghostly Labor’

San Jose native Vanessa Sanchez, a Chicana-Native dancer, choreographer and educator, has teamed with San Francisco-based dance and music company La Mezcla for “Ghostly Labor.” Sanchez is bringing the multidisciplinary production to her hometown for two shows on March 21-22 at the Hammer Theatre Center, 101 Paseo de San Antonio in downtown San Jose.

“Ghostly Labor” delves into the history of labor in the US-Mexico borderlands using a blend of tap dance, Mexican Zapateado, Afro-Caribbean movement, live music and animated archival video to explore the experiences of domestic and farm workers in California. Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana, or MACLA, is serving as a co-commissioner for the production.

Tickets are $10-$35 at https://hammertheatre.vbotickets.com or 408-998-2783, ext. 111.
