San Jose: Bicyclist dies from injuries following Monterey Road collision

SAN JOSE — A bicyclist has died from injuries he suffered in a crash a few days earlier on Monterey Road, police said.

The collision was reported Dec. 14 around 7:40 a.m. near Monterey Road and Alma Avenue, according to a San Jose police news release.

According to the SJPD investigation, the driver of a white 2019 Ford van was northbound on Monterey approaching Alma when it and turned into a parking lot, into the path of a northbound bicyclist in the bike lane.

It caused the bicyclist, described only as a man, to lose control and hit a fire hydrant, police said.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital and was initially stabilized, but police said he died Tuesday. His name has not been released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The van driver stopped at the scene, and there was no indication from police that he was cited or arrested.

It marked the city’s 48th traffic death of the year.
