A BMW was traveling in the third lane at an unknown speed and hit both the stalled vehicle and one of the assisting vehicles, Lu said.

One person was pronounced deceased, Lu said. Two parties were transported to a hospital, one for major injuries and the other for minor injuries.

The CHP has an ongoing investigation into the incident, Lu said. The person killed will be identified publicly after authorities confirm their name and notify their next of kin.
