EL CERRITO – The El Cerrito del Norte BART station was closed Wednesday evening following a “major medical emergency,” according to the rapid transit system.

BART equipment problem shuts down service between Richmond and Oakland

The emergency started around 6 p.m., BART spokesperson Anna Duckworth said in a recorded message. The exact nature of the emergency was not immediately disclosed.

As of 6:47 p.m., trains were single tracking through the area.

AC Transit was providing mutual aid, with Line 72M making stops at the Richmond, El Cerrito del Norte and El Cerrito Plaza BART stations, Duckworth said.
