The fatal traffic collision happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. on No Name Uno near St. Louise Regional Hospital, the Gilroy Police Department said in a news release.

Officers arrived to find a 32-year-old Gilroy man lying in the roadway, according to police. He was unresponsive.

A nurse from the nearby hospital was driving past the scene and stopped to help provide aid, police said. The man, however, was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The driver remained at the scene, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation, but police said the driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
