Kelly Rowland claims race played role in heated exchange during Cannes Film Festival

Kelly Rowland says racism was behind her tense moment with security at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday.

The former Destiny’s Child singer, 43, claimed she was “scolded” by a security guard while other women on the red carpet “who did not quite look like me” were treated differently, she told the Associated Press in an interview published Thursday.

Rowland added that she “stood [her] ground. The woman knows what happened, I know what happened. I have a boundary and I stand by those boundaries, and that’s it.”

The incident unfolded as Rowland was making her way into the theater at the premiere of the French-Italian film “Marcello Mio,” when photographers captured her yelling at a female security guard.

A video of the incident showed Rowland being urged continuously to head up the steps by multiple members of security, but exactly what was said remains unclear.

In February, she reportedly walked off the set of the “Today” show due to issues with her dressing room.
