Nintendo San Francisco store coming to the West Coast in 2025

Nintendo announced in a news release that it is opening an official store in San Francisco’s Union Square, making it the second place in the U.S. that has retail location from the iconic video game company. The other one is in New York.

The company said the store will be called Nintendo San Francisco and will open in 2025. Interestingly enough, it wouldn’t be the first brand store from a consolemaker in the city. In the 2000s, Sony had a presence in the Metreon. The building was home to the official PlayStation Store and was a place where the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 launched. (I waited more than 36 hours in line for a PS3 in 2006.) The store also hosted several video game competitions before esports’ popularity erupted.

With the Nintendo San Francisco, expect similar events. The New York store has exclusive memorabilia and hosts launch events such as the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.” It could be the place to be if Nintendo ever launches that rumored follow-up to the Switch.
