SAN JOSE — San Jose police are investigating the city’s 15th homicide, a male victim who was found dead from a gunshot wound in an apartment complex near a busy shopping mall.
The killing occurred at an apartment in the 1000 block of Blossom River Way, a street that’s adjacent to the bustling Westfield Oakridge shopping center in south San Jose.
San Jose police officers responded on May 26 at 2:45 p.m. to a report of a shooting on that street. Police officers responded to an apartment that was the location of the shooting.
“When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim who was neither conscious nor breathing and was suffering from at least one gunshot wound,” the San Jose Police Department stated in a prepared release.
Police officers immediately began to administer life-saving measures for the victim and at the same time called emergency medical responders to the apartment.
“Despite their efforts, the victim was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene,” San Jose police said int he statement.
The victim, described as an adult male, wasn’t immediately identified.
“The suspect is unknown and fled the scene prior to police arrival,” the Police Department stated.
The San Jose Police Department homicide unit responded to the crime scene to investigate the fatal shooting.
“The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are under investigation,” police said.
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office intends to release the victim’s name after the victim is identified and next-of-kin are notified, police said.
