Lake Berryessa shooting suspect arrested by Napa County authorities

A North Bay man was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting another person during a brawl at Lake Berryessa on Saturday, according to a news release from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

Man shot dead, more than five people stabbed in brawl by Lake Berryessa: police

Authorities arrested Gabriel James Chavez, a 25-year-old man from American Canyon. and charged him with murder. Chavez was expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

One person was fatally shot and at least five people were stabbed during a large fight June 8 on the shore of Lake Berryessa, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said. The shooting victim was identified as Andrew Fabian Sandoval Garcia, a 39-year-old Vallejo resident.

Police were called around 5:30 p.m. Saturday to the Oak Shores day-use area; the caller reported multiple victims of stabbings and someone with a gunshot wound. According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Henry Wofford, two people with stab wounds were airlifted to local hospitals in serious condition. Friends and family members drove other stabbing victims to the hospital.

The cause of the fight and how many people were involved has yet to be determined by investigators.
