The fatal collision happened around 9:10 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 25 and Hillcrest Road, according to the Hollister Police Department. Officers arrived to find a car wrapped around a traffic pole.

The driver suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Prior to the collision, the driver was seen speeding southbound on Highway 25 and passing other cars on the right shoulder, police said. The driver appeared to run a red light at Hillcrest Road and was hit by another car traveling westbound through the intersection.

The impact caused the speeding car to spin out and collide with the traffic pole, police said.

Southbound Highway 25 from Meridian Street to Park Street and Hillcrest Road from Industrial Drive to Highway 25 were closed for an investigation until about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.
