OAKLAND — Police here have identified a man shot and killed during an argument outside of a vehicle he was in on June 19.
Joseph Doaty, 34, of Oakland, was fatally shot around 7 p.m. on the 1000 block of 77th Avenue, according to Oakland police. Police have not announced any arrests.
Authorities say Doaty was seen talking with a man who became increasingly irate during their talk. At some point, the man pulled out a gun and fired at him multiple times. A child was present for the shooting just a few feet away, but escaped injury, authorities said.
Doaty’s funeral was held last Sunday in Oakland, where loved ones described him as a loyal and caring friend who would drop what he was doing to help out someone in need.
Police say Doaty lived a short distance from where he was shot and had just pulled up to his home and parked his car a few minutes before the shooting. They haven’t said whether they’ve learned the nature of the argument or whether Doaty and his killer knew one another.
