Man shot and killed at East Bay apartment complex

Elindenia Silva, 48, of El Sobrante, had more than one stab wound when Richmond police officers arrived to the 3500 block of El Portal Drive about 4:20 p.m. She died at the scene.

The homicide was the ninth one investigated by Richmond police in 2024, one more than they totaled in all of 2023. The total last year was the least since the city began keeping records in 1971.

Five of those homicides have occurred since June 18, when a 30-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were shot to death. On June 19, about 8½ hours after that double shooting, gunfire killed another man. Four days later, a 26-year-old man died in another hail of bullets.

Police have not announced arrests or motives in any of the killings.
