Vote now: Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Dec. 4-9.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and any votes after 5 p.m. on Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at [email protected].

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Jazmine Cardwell, Vallejo basketball: Cardwell, a senior, made 13 of 16 shots and scored 29 points in Vallejo’s dominant victory over Hercules. She also grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds. Cardwell scored 25 points in the next game. 

Maben Cody, Prospect soccer: Cody, a sophomore, scored two goals in Prospects’ game against Monta Vista. It equaled her career high for goals in one game. 

Terren Davis, Berkeley soccer: Davis, a sophomore, scored a brace – two goals – in the YellowJacket’s 3-0 win over Pittsburg. Those were her first goals of the season. 

Frankie DeRosa, Half Moon Bay soccer: DeRosa, a sophomore goalkeeper, did her part in keeping a clean sheet against risto Rey San Jose Jesuit. She had three saves in the 5-0 victory. 

Mikaela Dumagan, Washington-Fremont basketball: Dumagan, a junior, did it all in a win over Arroyo last week. She scored 27 points and dished out six assists, and also had 10 steals too.

CIF state football championships: This weekend’s scoreboard

Kayla Lichaa, San Mateo soccer: Lichaa, a freshman, had a big impact in a 3-0 victory over Monta Vista. She scored once and also had an assist in the 3-0 win on Saturday. 

Jamie Nguyen, Homestead soccer: Nguyen, a senior midfielder, didn’t need to score to put her stamp on the game, assisting on all three Homestead goals in a win over Burlingame.

Reza Po, Sacred Heart Cathedral basketball: Po, a senior, scored a game-high 25 points in SHC’s 57-55 victory over previously undefeated Archbishop Riordan on Saturday. The big game helped keep the Irish a perfect 6-0. 

Maci Stemmons, Monte Vista wrestling: Stemmons, a senior, was 4-0 with four pins at the Roger Briones Tournament, and won Most Outstanding Middleweight Wrestler for the tournament. She finished the week 11-1 on the season with 11 pins. 

Paige Thompson, Las Lomas soccer: Thompson, a junior, scored four goals and had one assist in Las Lomas’ 10-0 rout over Armijo on Thursday. She was one of seven Las Lomas players to score. 

Hailey Wescott, Mountain View soccer: Hailey Wescott, a senior, scored twice and had one assist as the Spartans easily dispatched Menlo School 5-1. She also had an assist in Mountain View’s 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart Prep.
