Shannon Road reopens in Los Gatos after extensive repairs

Shannon Road reopens

After being closed for repairs last August, Shannon Road is back open.

Safety concerns pushed Los Gatos officials to reduce a portion of Shannon Road down to one lane of traffic just months after a lawsuit alleging botched repairs to the road was settled.

A 1,300-foot stretch of road between Santa Rosa Drive and Diduca Way was closed while repairs were underway. Shannon Road was the subject of a $5.5 million lawsuit between Los Gatos and Santa Clara County in 2022 after the town annexed the road from the county in 2018 and inherited significant structural issues and costly repairs.

History club open house

For the first time since the pandemic, the History Club of Los Gatos is opening its doors to the community for an opportunity to see what’s new at the 127-year-old philanthropic organization. The open house takes place Jan. 25, 7-9 p.m., at the History Club’s clubhouse, located at 123 Los Gatos Blvd.

The focus of the club has been to support women and children throughout Santa Clara County, including local organizations Cancer CAREPoint, the Bill Wilson Center, Pacific Clinics, Good Karma Bikes, SJSU Spartan Food Pantry, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence and Heritage Home. The club makes donations to these organizations, and members volunteer with them.

The History Club was an idea conceived by Elizabeth Urquhart, and started as a small group of just five women in 1897. Members raised funds to build the clubhouse and own it outright, which they achieved in 1908 without financial help from their husbands.

RSVP for the open house by Jan. 18 to [email protected]. Hot cider and refreshments will be served. For more information, visit www.historyclublosgatos.org.
