A boathouse at the end of a historic pier at Nick’s Cove in Marshall burned down on Sunday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building was unoccupied at the time. No one was hurt, said Marimar Ochoa, a spokesperson for the Marin County Fire Department.
Firefighters were called just before 5 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the boathouse engulfed in flames, according to the department. The fire was contained at about 5:30 p.m. Crews remained on scene for another two hours to mop up.
Responding departments included the Marin County Fire Department, Sonoma County Fire District Coast Guard Two Rock Fire Station and Tomales Volunteer Fire Company.
The building is a “complete loss,” according to the fire department.

The boathouse is located at the end of a 300-foot pier at 23240 Highway 1 in the coastal West Marin hamlet, located along the Tomales Bay. The structure, as well as a popular restaurant, date to the 1930s and are considered of historic local significance.
The boathouse is overseen by Nick’s Cove, a hospitality company that manages event spaces, a restaurant and 12-guest cottages on site.
It is advertised as an event space available for rent that can seat 12 guests or 20 people standing.
“This is a timeless space filled with wonder (and a piano),” according to the company’s website.
