Man charged with pimping after vice operation in Oakland

OAKLAND — A 55-year-old man has been charged with pimping after police on a vice operation allegedly witnessed him dropping off a suspected sex worker, court records show.

Qualik Tuliva allegedly pulled up in a Mercedes Benz to International Boulevard in Oakland and dropped off a 22-year-old woman, who proceeded to attempt to wave down cars. The Mercedes stayed in the area a short distance from the woman, police said.

The woman was arrested after offering an undercover officer sexual services for money, police said. Tuliva was detained a short time later. Police say they recovered more evidence that verified that he was her pimp.

Tuliva was held in custody in lieu of $160,000 bail — and briefly transferred to custody in Los Angeles, where he has a prior burglary conviction — but is now out of jail, court records show. An Alameda County judge has ordered him to stay out of high-prostitution areas and not transport anyone but a family member in his vehicle, court records show.
