Investigators arrested 33-year-old Christopher Schwenk on suspicion of first-degree murder while shooting from a vehicle and arson of an inhabited structure, according to records at Santa Rita Jail.

The arrest is related to a fire at a residence about 3:30 a.m. Monday in the 33400 block of 14th Street, according to a statement from Union City police. Some of the occupants in the home evacuated, but a 66-year-old man died at a hospital from his injuries, police said.

Authorities did not identify him Wednesday, citing the investigation. It’s the third time Union City police have investigated a homicide in 2024.

Police said they also arrested a 57-year-old woman following the fire but later released her.

Authorities did not have any other details regarding the blaze. Police said the investigation is ongoing and encouraged anyone with information to contact Det. Michael Bedford at [email protected] or 510-675-5266. Anonymous tips can be sent to [email protected] or 510-675-5207.
