Woman killed in Oakland hit-and-run is identified

OAKLAND — A woman killed Tuesday afternoon in a hit-and-run traffic collision near downtown was identified by the coroner’s office Thursday as Kim May Barranco, 59.

Police said Thursday the SUV that hit her has been found but the driver is still being sought.

Barranco, whom the coroner’s office had no listed address for, was struck and killed about 12:56 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of San Pablo Avenue, near West Grand Avenue.

She was crossing the street and was not in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a speeding 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, police said. She died at the scene.

The man driving the SUV did not remain at the scene and the vehicle was last seen going northbound on San Pablo Avenue, police said.

Police recovered the SUV in Oakland later.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver. Anyone with information may call police at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
