Four teen girls arrested in beating and robbery at Oakland BART station

OAKLAND — Four Oakland girls were arrested Wednesday night in the beating and robbery of a woman at the Lake Merritt BART Station, authorities said.

BART officials said the 34-year-old victim was robbed of a cell phone and necklace in the attack just before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

She suffered bruising and required medical treatment, authorities said.

BART police arrested the four suspects — three 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old — trying to flee but did not recover the stolen items.

The victim did not know the suspects, authorities said.

One of the 15-year-olds and the 16-year-old were arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault by force likely to produce great bodily injury. The other two suspects were arrested on the assault charge.

BART police are trying to determine if other suspects may have also been involved.

The four girls were taken to the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center in San Leandro, but it was not known if they were still in custody Thursday morning.

BART authorities said none of the suspects arrested were in possession of valid fare tickets. All four were issued orders prohibiting them from riding BART.
