Castro Valley 3, Berkeley 1
Castro Valley captured the West Alameda County Foothill Division league crown for the second consecutive year with a hard-fought 25-21,14-25, 25-22, 25-20 win over Berkeley. It’s the first time Castro Valley won back-to-back league titles since 1993-94, according to head coach Maggie Del Grande.
Outside hitter Tessa Smith had a team-high 31 kills to go along with four aces, four blocks and eight digs. Ava Hinrichsen added seven kills while Dasha Barmina recorded six kills and a block. Junior setter Maddie Lew totaled 36 assists and 10 digs.
At one point this season, Castro Valley lost three straight games and was 8-8 a month into the year. But the Trojans finished on a high note, winning 12 of its final 13 games to finish the regular season 20-9, 8-1.
“To be able to win the league again on the road … just means so much because those are just harder games to win,” Del Grande said. “I think that doing it again this year kind of proves that it wasn’t just a one-off thing last year. It shows that our program really is improving, and we’re consistently being strong.”
Berkeley’s Rubi Silva had 20 assists and five aces. Lili Sanger totaled seven kills and five digs.
Campolindo 3, Berean Christian 1
Campolindo cruised to its eighth straight win, beating Berean Christian 25-21, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21. The Cougars locked up the Diablo Athletic League regular season title with the win.
Marley Seelye led Berean Christian with 11 kills, three aces and five digs in the loss.
Boys water polo
No. 2 De La Salle 11, No. 4 Sacred Heart Prep 8
The Spartans notched a key win over one of the top teams in the Central Coast Section behind three goals from senior Davidka Skov. Sloan Brown, Breydon Congo and Lukas Peters each had two goals for De La Salle.
Nelson Harris totaled four goals and Clay Carrington had three goals for Sacred Heart Prep.
Prospect 23, Independence 2
Kyle Pollace scored three goals and had three assists as Prospect routed Independence.
Emil Veksler, Chase Iken and Jacob Kahn each scored three times. Freshman goalkeeper Mathias Tari-Geli had 10 saves with a save percentage of 83%.
Miramonte 17, Archie Williams 13
After trailing by a goal at halftime, Miramonte exploded in the second half to beat North Bay power Archie Williams 17-13.
Tristan Tucker led Miramonte with nine goals as the Matadors won their third straight.
Girls water polo
Pittsburg 8, Concord 3
Pittsburg star Yesenia Moffett totaled three goals and three assists to lead the Pirates to a comfortable win on the road.
Alice DarrinBascomb and Jenzella Low each had scored twice while Tierney Taylor recorded a goal, an assist and three steals. Goalkeeper Katie Thurston was solid for Pittsburg’s backline, recording six saves.
Prospect 23, Independence 6
Prospect captured its third consecutive league title with a blowout win over Prospect.
Kat Borich led all scorers with six goals and added three assists. Stacia Levin and Lily Levin each had four goals and combined for 13 assists and eight steals.
Dalia Thompson, Valerie Vainberg and Amanda Kong each recorded a score in the win.
“This is quite the accomplishment given Prospect has only had water polo for four seasons,” Prospect coach Si Gutierrez told this news organization.

Hill 31, Willow Glen 13
Annaliyah Felix threw a touchdown to Jazmine Turcios and Jenifer Lopez as Hill defeated Willow Glen to improve to 13-2. Nevaeh Hernandez picked off two passes, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Yesenia Fonseca added an interception and a rushing touchdown.

Encinal 46, Hayward 26
Encinal came out on top in this matchup of high-scoring offenses.
The Jets won their ninth straight with the victory and finished the regular season averaging 33.7 points per game.
Isabella Zaragoza was a standout for Hayward catching three touchdown passes in the loss.
