The crash happened just before 2 p.m. at Live Oak Avenue and Monterey Road, the CHP said.
The man was driving southbound on Monterey Road in a 2018 Honda and ran a red light at the intersection, according to the CHP. At the same time, a 2017 Freightliner was making a left turn onto Monterey Road from eastbound Live Oak Avenue.
The vehicles collided. The CHP said the impact caused the Honda to veer into the northbound direction of Monterey Road, where it crashed into a 1993 Jeep waiting to turn left onto Live Oak Avenue. Debris from that crash hit a 2016 Ford behind the Jeep.
The drivers of the Jeep and the Honda were taken to area hospitals, where the latter died of his injuries. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to play a role in the crash, according to the CHP.
