FAA report reveals two people were killed in Half Moon Bay plane crash on Sunday

HALF MOON BAY — A second person died in the Half Moon Bay plane crash on Sunday, according to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The report comes a day after the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office announced that a female body was found by the crew of a commercial fishing boat near the crash site off the coast of Half Moon Bay. Officials with the Sheriff’s Office did not say Monday whether they believed there could be more than one death.

The FAA preliminary report, which the Bay Area News Group obtained Tuesday morning, noted that a four-seat Cozy Mark IV aircraft crashed into the ocean due to unknown circumstances at 7:40 p.m. Sunday. It listed two fatals in the report, including one member of the flight crew and one passenger.

The identities of the two killed in the crash have yet to be identified publicly by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office. Both the Coast Guard and Sheriff’s Office suspended their search efforts on Monday.

The FAA report didn’t reveal the airport that the plane departed from on Sunday, but a Sheriff’s Office official reiterated on Tuesday morning that the latest belief was that it took off from an airport in the East Bay.
