Concord man charged with murder in shooting near Antioch railroad tracks

ANTIOCH — County prosecutors have filed murder charges against a Concord man who was on parole when he allegedly shot a man dead near downtown Antioch, court records show.

Agustin Calderon, 41, was charged with murdering 29-year-old Eric Azevedo in the Dec. 16, 2023 shooting. Authorities say Calderon was on parole at the time after serving less than half of a sentence for a 2017 conviction of assault with a deadly firearm.

Calderon is being held in lieu of $4 million bail and is set to be arraigned on Jan. 26, court records show.

Authorities haven’t disclosed the suspected motive for the shooting. Azevedo was shot and killed near a tent where he lived by the railroad tracks on the 700 block of West 1st Street in Antioch, police said at the time.

Calderon’s 2017 conviction stemmed from a domestic violence incident where he was initially charged with kidnapping and other offenses, according to court records.
