HAYWARD – A person was shot and killed Wednesday in Hayward, marking the city’s first homicide of the year, police said.

The fatal shooting happened around 3:25 p.m. in the 21000 block of Foothill Boulevard, according to the Hayward Police Department. Officers arrived to find an unresponsive male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A suspect in the shooting was found at the scene and taken into custody, police said.

Police did not release the names of the victim or the suspect.

“Officers believe they have identified all involved parties and that there is no ongoing threat to the community,” police said in a statement.
