Brentwood: Driver in 2021 fatal crash receives 4-year jail term

MARTINEZ — A man was sentenced to a four-year jail term for killing a woman in a June 2021 crash in Brentwood, court records show.

Peter Constantine, 69, pleaded no contest to a vehicular manslaughter charge last year. He was formally sentenced on Oct. 27, and given credit for two years’ time served before the case was resolved.

The charge stemmed from a June 27, 2021 crash that killed 72-year-old Susan Lovospastor, a Knightsen resident. Police said at the time that the two-car collision occurred around 3:40 p.m. near the intersection of Brentwood Boulevard and Grant Street and, and that Constantine suffered “major injuries” from the crash.

In April 2023, the Contra Costa District Attorney charged Constantine with vehicular manslaughter involving “gross negligence,” a felony. Authorities say drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.

Constantine is no longer in custody, according to court records.
