BURLINGAME — A car traveling northbound on highway 280 swerved for an unknown reason, overcorrected and flipped into an embankment early Thursday morning near Burlingame, killing one of its passengers, according to authorities.
The single-car crash happened around 6:40 a.m. just south of Trousdale Drive, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Sophie Lu. A grey Honda sedan containing four people was stopped against a tree when responding officers arrived.
The passenger sitting in the front-right seat was pronounced dead at the scene, Lu said. The person was yet to be publicly identified as of Thursday morning.

The other three people involved were transported to a hospital. The driver complained of minor pains while the status of the other two passengers was unknown as of 11:15 a.m., though Lu said their injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.
Lu said the cause of the crash “could be” weather related but officers weren’t entirely sure as of Thursday morning. She noted that the roadway was wet at the time of the crash.
